Our kiln is used primarily for firing glazed pottery, but it's also able to slump wine bottles. Either in a wine bottle mold or laying flat, wine bottles can be slumped in the kiln, melting the glass so it forms a dish or cheese plate.
How It Works
Have any wine bottles at home that you're not sure what to do with? Bring them to Skipper's! Slumped wine bottle dishes and cheese plates make great gifts, and are great to have in your own home! Make sure your bottle, or bottles are free of any paper labels before you bring them in, and a Skipper's team member will take your name and phone number to keep with your bottle or bottles. You can choose if you'd like it placed in a mold or if you'd like it slumped flat. We have lots of examples available for you to check out and purchase if you'd like! The slumping process could take 7-10 days, because our team needs to adjust kiln settings between slumping and firing pottery. When your wine bottle is slumped and cooled, we will call you and you can pick up your slumped wine bottle dish or cheese plate!
